Pure scholarship, zero barriers: Leading the future of architecture and planning through Diamond Open Access.

The Journal of Architectural and Planning Research (JAPR) is a long-established scholarly journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in the built environment. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for architectural and design research, urban planning and spatial policy research, and design, interior design, and urban design in practice.

Open Access: From 2023 to onward, JAPR follows the Diamond Open Access model—completely free for both authors and readers, with no article processing charges (APCs) or subscription fees. It is published by Locke Science Publisher.

Publication Frequency: JAPR publishes one volume per year with four issues annually released in March, June, September, and December.

Scope: The journal welcomes original research and practice-oriented contributions across architecture, planning, spatial policy, and design disciplines, linking theory, evidence, and professional application.

Indexing & Abstracting: JAPR is indexed in Web of Science, including the Core Collection with coverage in Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) across categories such as Environmental Studies, Regional & Urban Planning, and Urban Studies. It is also included in Current Contents – Social and Behavioral Sciences and appears in Essential Science Indicators classifications for the social sciences.

DOIs: Each published paper is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for stable citation, linking, and long-term discoverability.

Print & Online Editions: JAPR is published in both formats: Print ISSN 0738-0895 and Online ISSN 3070-9229.
